Museum of Appalachia
The Museum of Appalachia was recently named an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. The museum is a living history museum that presents the lifestyles of the Appalachian peoples through artifacts, exhibitions and programs. With more than 30 historic log buildings on 63 acres and hundreds of exhibits to discover and learn about, this is an attraction your family will enjoy. The museum offers picturesque pastures and gardens, historic 19th century buildings, historic furnishings and collections, folk art and authentic mountain music that stands alone as a tribute to the American spirit.

The museum annually hosts over 100,000 visitors and is open year-round except Christmas Day. A restaurant and gift shop is available with authentic country style cooking for everyone. See calendar for updated activities and annual events.

Admission Info
Below are regular admission rates. Please note that festival rates apply during the Tennessee Fall Homecoming. All schools and home-schools should schedule field trips ahead with the Events Staff at (865) 494-7680 to receive information about student admission rates and discounted rates for chaperones.

Regular Museum Admission  
Adults (ages 13-64) $12.95
AAA $10.00
Senior Citizens (age 65+) $10.00
Children (ages 6-12) $5.00
Children (under age 6 with parent) FREE
Adult Group Rate (20+) $10.00

The Museum of Appalachia is open every day of the year, except Christmas Day. Hours vary with the seasons, depending upon daylight hours, so be sure to call ahead to verify opening hours..

Norris Lake is excellent for fishing because of the clear deep water. Popular catches include Brown and Rainbow trout, Striper bass, small and largemouth bass, walleye, and plenty of crappie. Fishing guide services and licenses are available through many of the marinas.
